    National Trust’s campaign to fight off the Coalition’s highly unpopular planning reforms gathers momentum and attracts widespread support. NT has recently published its manifesto for planning, ‘Planning for People’ ,in response to the Government’s confused belief that it can develop itself out of a financial hole by trashing the environment!   • Climate change and air pollution sidelined by Tories (again) in Canterbury

    On the 29th September 2011, Tories again blocked attempts to put climate change and air pollution firmly on the district’s agenda. The Corporate Plan was adopted without any reference to climate change with a hopeless ‘ let us do nothing approach’ to air pollution-The Climate Change Pledge including air pollution measures had been submitted through a motion by the Liberal Democrats but this was sidelined without debate to future and different committees-apparently a tactic used for losing unpopular motions!   • Daily Telegraph launches Hands Off Our Land Campaign

    In response to growing public oppostion to the Government’s planning reforms, the Daily Telegraph newspaper has launched its Hands Off Our Land Campaign on September 1st 2011. The National Trust, CPRE and numerous other organisations have come out against the reforms. 23 former presidents of the Royal Town Planning Institute wrote an open letter to the Daily Telgraph on the launch of the campaign asking from the Government ‘reasoned debate and clear thinking’ on the reforms.
